On November 26, 2021, the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication held its annual Doctoral Seminar "Media and Communications" on the video conferencing platform Teams.
In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Veselina Valkanova, Dean of FJMC, reminded that for the third year already the Faculty organizes all-faculty doctoral seminars, summarizing the goals of such scientific forums - the exchange of ideas and approaches with colleagues from related scientific specialties within the field of Public Communications and Information Sciences, as well as establishing a tradition of periodic scientific presentations by PhD students and the validation of research theses, the publication of research results, and the checking of watches on issues in the scientific field in which full-time, part-time and independent doctoral students work.
The texts of the papers presented at the Seminar are published in a specially created series of doctoral proceedings, Media and Communications. A second volume of the proceedings is being prepared, which will include the approved texts from this Seminar.
Thirty-three doctoral students from all departments of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication presented papers related to their doctoral theses or to current research in the field of public communication and information studies. The work of the forum was organized in five sessions - Mediated Reading and Education, Conflict Points and Ethics in Communication, Politics and Propaganda, Digital Marketing Communications, Identity and Media. Discussions were moderated by distinguished habilitated professors from FJMC, and doctoral supervisors and professors participated in the seminar.
The seminar is traditionally included in the Clement Days of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and is part of the compulsory elective doctoral courses in the curriculum for the second and third doctoral years. Participation in the course earns 5 credits.
